In the tense situation between India and Pakistan, the Board for Control of Cricket in India has decided to temporarily suspend the 2025 edition of the Indian Premier League. In such a situation, former English captain Michael Vaughan has proposed that the remainder of the Indian Premier League can be conducted in England, given that India's next fixture is in that country, the five-match Test series against the host. Taking his X handle, Vaughan wrote, "I wonder if it’s possible to finish the IPL in the UK .. We have all the venues and the Indian players can then stay on for the Test series .. Just a thought?" IPL has already been under scrutiny, yet it was thought to continue under tight security until tensions broke within the radar of 100 kilometers. Dharamshala, 85 kilometers away from Pathankot, was scheduled to host the match between Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings. Despite uncertainty, the match started with the city maintaining its usual composure. Fans showed up, all dressed in red, and even greeted their captain, Shreyas Iyer, when he decided to bat first, winning the toss. As the air routes have been closed for commoners, several fans of Delhi Capitals took the road and attended the match. But then the news of Pathankot being attacked gradually spread in the stadium. Arun Dhumal, the president of IPL, as well as Punjab Kings co-owner Preity Zinta, was seen asking the fans to leave. Initially a floodlight turned off, and the match was delayed. What looked like an easy technical glitch turned out to be a security evacuation for the spectators. The media team packed stuff and started leaving within 10 minutes. The floodlights then gradually went off one after another until the match was finally suspended. The fans coordinated with the security personnel. Despite howling with shock, they walked away calmly, with discipline, and players along with media were escorted out safely to their respective hotels. Just a night after India successfully neutralized the drone attack coming from Pakistan, BCCI officially declared the tournament suspended. There were words going around that IPL might resume in September, assuming that the Asia Cup 2024 might not happen. But, later, the BCCI vice president, Rajeev Shukla, said in an interview that IPL has been suspended as an immediate effect but will resume after a week.
