A day after Shahid Afridi made controversial comments about the Indian Army, former Indian cricketer Shikhar Dhawan delivered a sharp rebuttal. The remarks came in the wake of the tragic Pahalgam terrorist attack on April 22, which claimed 26 lives and further escalated tensions between India and Pakistan. Afridi, who has represented Pakistan in 27 Tests, 398 ODIs, and 99 T20Is, mocked the Indian Army’s handling of the attack, questioning its ability to prevent the incident in Kashmir. Speaking on a TV show, Afridi remarked: "You have an 800,000-strong army in Kashmir, and yet this happened. It means you are inefficient and useless if you can't provide security to the people." Afridi also criticised the Indian media for sensationalising the situation, saying: "It's surprising that within an hour of the attack, their media turned into Bollywood. For God's sake, don’t make everything Bollywood." Shikhar Dhawan slams Shahid Afridi's comments In a swift response, Shikhar Dhawan used X (formerly Twitter) to address Afridi’s disparaging remarks. Dhawan reminded Afridi of India’s victory in the Kargil War, pointing out the pride Indians feel for their armed forces. He also asked the former Pakistan captain to focus on bettering the situation in Pakistan rather than making statements about India. These include the suspension of the Indus Water Treaty, the closure of the Attari border, and the revocation of visas for all Pakistani nationals in India.
