A third umpire will be present at each game of the WBBL in the next season and more games with full DRS usage. This will be the first time when the support of a third umpire will be there in every match. An innings timer will also come to the WBBL, mimicking the BBL model for the case. In that case, each team will get 73 minutes to start bowling when the 20th over comes. If this is not done, then a fielding penalty will be incurred by the team that needs another extra fielder inside the circle. Last season saw contentious line decisions infuriate players sufficiently for ESPNcricinfo to report that there would be more TV umpiring technology introduced. Out of the 43 games in the season, 33 will have full DRS. In the 10 games without it, the TV umpire will still have decisions on stumpings and run outs. DRS will be used in all 23 of its matches broadcasted by Seven, but Fox Sports has upscaled production for another 10 games. That would imply full DRS in 77% of the season's matches, compared with 41% in last season. We are pleased to deliver this via expanded DRS coverage to 33 matches, TV Umpire availability at all matches and the introduction of the Innings Timer. "Increasing DRS availability was a significant priority for players and umpires alike and will also improve the viewing experience on TV." The tenth edition takes off on October 27 with a triple-header: the Adelaide Oval hosts the defending champions the Adelaide Strikers play Brisbane Heat in a rematch of last year's final, followed by the Melbourne Renegades hosting Sydney Sixers at the same venue, before Perth Scorchers face Melbourne Stars at the WACA.
