Yuzvendra Chahal made a memorable comeback in the 2025 County Championship with an incredible delivery that castled Ekansh Singh and caused an early jolt for Kent on the final day the game. Kent took field first and batted for 155.5 overs, posting an enormous 566/8 in their first innings. Chahal, who represented Northamptonshire, bowled 42 overs in his season's opening match but failed to scalp a wicket. His ended the innings with the figures of 0 for 129. Northamptonshire responded strongly, posting an even greater total of 722/6. Four of their batters, Ricardo Vasconcelos (100), Calvin Harrison (122), Saif Zaib (196*), and Justin Broad (157*), each scored century. Saif Zaib remained not out on 196 when Northamptonshire declared at lunch on Day 4, allowing him to bowl in the second innings. Guthrie had already got opener Jaydyn Denly out in the first over. Chahal then struck in the seventh over by sending back Ekansh Singh, who had scored 27 runs from 24 balls. Chahal bowled an ideal delivery which drifted in, landed on leg stump, and turned very sharply to knock over off stump. It was Chahal's first scalp of the match after bowling 45.3 overs. Kent, in their second innings, scored 160-8 and the match ended in a draw. Chahal will play a crucial part for Northamptonshire both in red-ball and white-ball cricket this year. He generated buzz with an individual-best 9/99 against Derbyshire last year and picked 19 wickets in a mere 4 First-Class matches at the average of 21.
