Lockie Ferguson and Jacob Duffy bowled with pinpoint accuracy, not allowing any easy runs. At one stage, Duffy even bowled nine dot balls in a row, which also mounted immense pressure on the West Indian batters. Skipper Shai Hope found that breaking free was a tough ask, and once Roston Chase fell in the 13th over, the required run rate had escalated really high. New Zealand's spinners Mitchell Santner and Ish Sodhi kept things tight through the middle overs, and at that point, West Indies were seemingly out of the game. The two started hitting sixes for fun, with five maximums coming in the span of six balls, altogether turning the tide. Their fearless approach got the better of the New Zealand bowlers and revived hopes in the West Indies camp. The equation boiled down to just 20 runs off the last 10 balls, and with Kyle Jamieson overstepping in the final over, West Indies needed just seven from four deliveries. But Jamieson held his nerve and used slower deliveries quite effectively to end hopes of a miraculous victory for the visitors. Despite the heartbreaking loss, West Indies can take pride in their remarkable fightback. The never-give-up attitude and explosive display of batting made this one of the entertaining clashes between the two sides in recent memory.
