Virat Kohli was spotted in high spirits once again during the Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s (RCB) training session. The star batter was caught on camera playfully trying to mimic the distinctive batting style of his teammate Romario Shepherd. After that little stunt, the 37-year-old shared a laugh with his captain, Rajat Patidar. RCB has been gearing up for their second Indian Premier League (IPL) match of the season, where they’ll take on the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on Sunday, April 5. As RCB heads into the 2026 IPL season as the defending champions, Kohli continues to be their standout batter. He once again showcased his talent with the bat against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the opening match of their new campaign. RCB successfully chased down a target of 202 with over four overs to spare, thanks in large part to a solid 101-run partnership between Kohli and Devdutt Padikkal, who made an impressive 61 off just 26 balls. RCB has kept their title-winning squad largely intact from last year, which means Shepherd’s role remains crucial for their chances of defending the title in 2026. Despite being a bit pricey, Shepherd managed to take three wickets against SRH, including the key dismissals of Heinrich Klaasen and a well-performing Aniket Verma. Although he didn’t get a chance to bat against the Hyderabad team, Shepherd is still recognized as one of the most explosive batters in the IPL. Last season, the 31-year-old boasted a staggering strike rate of 291.66 across the three innings he played. With Shepherd and Tim David in the lineup, RCB’s batters can afford to go all out from the start, knowing there are powerful hitters waiting in the wings further down the order.
