India began the second day of the 2nd Test on 16-1 with Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill batting to complement each other with 49 runs. However, Shubman was dismissed by Santner who got him out after he scored 30 off 72 balls. Thereafter, Virat Kohli joined Yashasvi Jaiswal, but his innings didn't last long. Kohli was bowled by a low full toss from Santner after playing just 9 balls, scoring just 1 run. The Indian Batter played the wrong line and the ball sneaked under his bat and went onto hit the middle and leg. He misjudged the full-toss as it dipped and drifted into the wickets. This dismissal left him as well his fans in shock as Kohli usually makes the most of it on this kind of opportunities. The first day had ended with Yashasvi Jaiswal (6*) and Shubman Gill (10*) unbeaten, but Santner took things in his own hands the next morning. He ticked his wicket column by sending back Gill, who had scored 30 off 72 balls. A ball was pitched very full onto him, and after straightening at the pitch, straightened enough for Gill to try to cut it, missing it only to hit the pad. The umpire quickly sent him back, and Gill did not review, as it looked quite in line. He then dismissed the Indian Maestro Virat Kohli cheaply. The spin all-rounder was accompanied by Glenn Phillips who took 2 wickets. He sent Jaiswal and Pant back to pavillion.
