On day 5, in the third Test at Gabba, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma were seen plotting Steve Smith's dismissal with Mohammad Siraj. When Rohit Sharma asked Siraj about his plans for Smith, he later informed him to bowl over the stumps. Rohit was heard countering it, saying it would let Smith make some room to play shots. However, Virat Kohli backed Siraj, saying "saying kr he ho" (he is doing right). Kohli was heard saying in Hindi, which roughly translates as, “No, no, let him bowl from over the stumps. If he bowls that scrambled seam delivery, there’s a higher chance of getting him out. He’s right (Siraj). Set the square leg a bit deeper for the inswing and let him bowl at the stumps.” While batting in the second inning, Australia sent Michell Marsh at 4 and Smith at 6. Soon after coming to bat, he went for a boundary against Siraj. In the very next ball, he got Smith gloved by Rishabh Pant as he edged a delivery down the legside. A disappointing batting show was consoled by KL Rahul's 84 at the top and Ravindra Jadeja's 77 in the middle. India, who breached the Gabba fortress last time, had to fight hard to avoid a follow-on. The fast bowling duo Jasprit Bumrah and Aksh Deep added 39 runs together on Day 4, finally surpassing the requirement. On day 5, Akash Deep left to Head scoring 31 runs off 44 balls for a total of 260 runs. Coming to bowl, the Indian rattled down the Aussie batting order; Akash and Siraj claimed two wickets while Bumrah took 3. After scoring 89 runs, Australia declared, and rain came in. India started their batting, scored just 8 runs, and the umpire had to stop the play due to bad light issues. Early tea was called, and rain again came in as the umpires declared the match a draw. India will play the fourth Test in Melbourne on December 26 without having Ravichandran Ashwin in the squad. The veteran spinner has announced retirement from international cricket after the conclusion of the third Test and is expected to leave the camp on December 19.
