In Match 57 of Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League, Shinepukur Cricket Club and Gulshan Cricket Club faced each other at the National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur, Dhaka. This match was of particular importance for the Shinepukur Cricket Club who were at risk of relegation being placed at the bottom of the points table having lost 8 out of the 9 matches played in this 12-team competition. They got the right start when they won the toss and put Gulshan Cricket Club into bat first and skittled them out for just 178 runs in 41 overs. Chasing 179, Shinepukur Cricket Club lost their way after a decent start and lost heaps of wickets to be reduced to 144/9. The last pair needed to add 35 runs to save their team from a shambolic loss and perhaps a relegation. 28 of those 35 runs were added before perhaps one of the most controversial pieces of cricket action unfolded that saw Shinepukur Cricket Club being bowled out for 173 and eventually lose the match by 5 runs. Shinepukur Cricket Club's wicketkeeper Minhajul Abedin Sabbir was on strike against the off-spin of Naeem Islam. He stepped out but the bowler saw him coming and threw the ball outside the tramline which was collected by the wicketkeeper Alif Hasan behind the stumps who fumbled it and to the shock of many including the on-air commentators who expressed it by saying "Shocking! I've never seen anything like this", Minhajul did not even make an attempt to make it back to the crease. He could have easily slid his back into the crease but he almost withdrew his bat so that it did not get into the crease, almost as if he did not want to make it back. The keeper then whipped off the bails and even though it was a wide Gulshan Cricket Club won the match by 5 runs. These incidents have raised suspicion and disbelief among the league and the fans including Gazi Group cricketer Shamsur Rahman describing it as ""Seriously shame š”š”š”".
