The match between Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) during the Asia Cup 2025 saw a heart-stopping instance when on-field umpire Ruchira Palliyaguruge was hit on the ear by an accidental throw, compelling a temporary suspension of play. It happened after the fifth ball of Saim Ayub's over who was bowling the last over of the poweplay, when a return throw by a fielder went awry and hit Palliyaguruge on the left ear by mistake. The umpire started to show discomfort immediately and needed to be attended to medically. Medical staff and Pakistan players rushed on the field to help him. After the incident, standby umpire Gazi Sohel substituted Palliyaguruge, who was led off the field for further evaluation. Though the blow was not strong, it was sufficient to cause alarm to suspend the game momentarily. Junaid Siddique maintained his good run, claiming his second successive four-wicket haul, while Simranjeet Singh picked up three scalps in the moving overs of the innings. Pakistan's innings never picked up full steam as wickets came at regular intervals. Fakhar Zaman gave the team some stability with a half-century in 36 balls, and Shaheen Afridi made late scoring contributions with a 14-ball 29, taking Pakistan to a respective total of 146/9 in 20 overs. UAE Succumbed in the Must-Win Clash The chase was never going to be a cake walk for UAE. Pakistan's ace pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi drew the first blood by castling Alishan Sharafu in the third over and wickets kept falling at regular intervals since then. Rahul Chopra and Dhruv Parashar, however, showed some resilience by scoring run-a-ball 35 and 20 off 23 respectively, but they could not continue the fight in this modest chase. UAE were folded at a score of 105 from being 85-4 at one point. The lack of experience of playing at the higher stage was clearly evident in their batting and Pakistan made no errs in capitalizing on this. Afridi, Haris Rauf and Abrar Ahmed picked up two wickets each, while Saim Ayub and skipper Salman Agha bagged one wicket a piece. With this win, Pakistan have booked their seat in the Sunday's Super Four clash against the arch-rival India.
