Pakistan veteran batsman Umar Akmal demonstrated his batting abilities in a video moments after Pakistan lost to India against the Asia Cup 2025 final in Dubai on September 30. The wicketkeeper-batsman, who last played for Pakistan in a T20I against Sri Lanka in 2019, was practicing at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Karachi. Wearing full attire, Akmal was in good timing, cleanly striking the ball after being out of international cricket for years. Locally, Akmal's last performance was in the President's Trophy Final 2024 at Rawalpindi when he played for the Water and Power Development Authority against Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited. The video that he uploaded was a day after Pakistan's five-wicket loss to India in the continent's showcase. Tilak Varma, however, steadied the ship with an unbeaten 69 from 53 balls. Aided by Sanju Samson's 24 and Shivam Dube's 33 from 21, he helped India complete the target in 19.4 overs. Rinku Singh, on his Asia Cup debut, wrapped up the win with a boundary. For Pakistan, paceman Faheem Ashraf battled hard with returns of 3/29, but the shortage of runs did not leave much space for slip-ups. India's victory claimed their ninth Asia Cup title, re-establishing their supremacy in the continent. With the tournament over, both nations now focus on their next tasks. India play West Indies in a two-Test series starting October 2 at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, while Pakistan look to a Test series against South Africa.
