The New Zealand bowler Trent Boult is known for his quirky ways, be it defending in flamingo style or getting dismissed in the weirdest way possible. Last night, at the Abu Dhabi T10 League, in the match between Deccan Gladiators and Northern Warriors, Boult pulled out a stunning catch to dismiss Marcus Stoinis. Trent was representing the Northern Warriors and was fielding at the boundary. Marcus Stoinis, who managed a lower edge of the bat, could not make it to the boundary. Meanwhile, Boult ran behind a bit but took the catch by his other hand, but yes, with one hand only. Bowling first, the Warriors struck early as Boult removed Nicholas Pooran and David Wiese in consecutive deliveries, leaving the Gladiators reeling at 6 for 2 inside the first over. Despite a brilliant 58 off 31 balls from Tom Kohler-Cadmore, the Gladiators never recovered from the early collapse and were restricted to 87 for 7 in their 10 overs. Uzair Khan, Taskin Ahmed, and Tabraiz Shamsi chipped in with a wicket each to maintain pressure throughout. Chasing 88, the Warriors came out firing. Johnson Charles blasted 41 off just 17 balls, providing the perfect start. Although Deccan picked up a few wickets through Noor Ahmad and Muhammad Jawadullah, the target was too small to defend. Captain Thisara Perera (10*) and Azmatullah Omarzai (15* off 8) guided the Warriors home comfortably in 8.2 overs. The win keeps Northern Warriors firmly in contention, while Gladiators will rue their batting collapse despite Kohler-Cadmore’s lone fight.
