The former New Zealand cricketer and the veteran fast bowler who announced his retirement from international cricket in December 2024 avoids India's great batter and the leading run-scorer in World Cup 2023 with 765 runs, Virat Kohli and one the finest batters of Pakistan, Babar Azam and name two other batters to be the top scorer in the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025 that will take place in Pakistan and UAE. In a video posted by ICC on Instagram, Tim Southee was asked about who will be the top scorer in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 and Tim Southee named two players, one from his own nation and other from their neighbouring country and the World Cup 2023 winning team. He named Kane Williamson and Travis Head to be the leading run-scorers in the eight-team marquee event. Tim Southee said: "Leading run scorer, I think the wickets will be pretty good in Pakistan. I’d like to say Kane Williamson will be up there. I just think his ability to adapt to different conditions we’ve seen, his experience in different conditions, and his success in different conditions, and he’s a guy that’s got a phenomenal one-day record, so if New Zealand are to go deep into the competition, then he’s going to have to score a lot of runs as well." He added: "And maybe Travis Head from Australia as well. I think he’s a dangerous player. He’s been a standout in the One Day World Cup in the last edition. I think he’ll like the wickets in Pakistan and Australia historically have been very strong in world events, so I’m sure they’ll be there near the end as well." He only featured in 4 matches in the ICC World Cup 2023 and he scored 256 runs at an average of 85.33. Southee's other candidate for the top scorer of the Champions Trophy 2025, Travis Head, is also known for his attacking nature and performing under pressure. The southpaw, who will open for Australia in the Champions Trophy, led his side to victory in the ICC World Cup 2023 by scoring a century in the Final at Ahmedabad. He has a good track record in Pakistan as the surface there offers assistance to the batters and hence, he can be amongst the leading run-scorers in the event.
