Queensland's Mitchell Swepson came up with a stunning moment of genius in the field in the Australia One Day Cup 2025-26, taking a one-handed blinder to send back centurion Joel Curtis. The thrilling catch illuminated the 5th match of the tournament at Allan Border Field, Brisbane, as Western Australia compiled a dominating score of 321/9. Western Australia's score was controlled by the elegant batting of their wicketkeeper Curtis, who produced a fluent 116 off 108 balls. His innings was dotted with 12 sharp boundaries and four towering sixes, keeping the score ticking and putting pressure on the Queensland bowlers. Curtis had able support in Sam Whiteman, who made a mature 83, ensuring WA constructed a strong platform despite consistent breakthroughs. The duo frustrated the Queensland bowlers together and provided Western Australia with much-needed momentum for their innings. Their partnership got the visitors over 300 runs, which left a strong target in front of the hosts. While Curtis and Whiteman hogged major portions of the innings, Queensland's bowling attack fought back by way of leg-spinner Swepson and pacer Tom Straker. Swepson was the best of the bowlers, returning with great figures of 4/52, employing his variations to outwit the WA batsmen. Straker supported him well, picking up 3/65 and persistently probing the middle order. But the day's best moment, surely, occurred in the 32nd over when Swepson converted brilliance in the field into a game-altering wicket. Curtis’ Innings Ends with Swepson’s Screamer It was the third ball of the 32nd over, bowled by Straker, that provided one of the highlights of the season thus far. Straker bowled a full ball outside off, coaxing Curtis into a risky lofted shot down the long-off boundary. The ball looked like it would go over the inner circle, but Swepson, who was at mid-off, had other thoughts. Timing his jump to perfection, Swepson jumped into the air and snatched the ball in his right hand with one movement. The crowd went wild as he landed safely clutchesing what can only be termed a screamer. The dismissal brought Curtis's excellent innings to an end and returned the momentum to Queensland.
