Suryakumar Yadav will lead Mumbai Indians against Chennai Super Kings in the absence of Hardik Pandya at MA Chidambaram Stadium on Sunday. Ahead of the much-anticipated clash, the stand-in captain attended a press conference in Chepauk, where he shared his thoughts on the upcoming game. During the press conference, a journalist posed a question, asking Yadav about handling the 'uncapped' MS Dhoni. Initially confused, Yadav mistook the query as a reference to the umpires. However, once the journalist clarified, the India T20I captain couldn’t hold back his laughter. "Has anyone ever been able to control Dhoni in so many years?", he comically responded. He also mentioned how they all have learnt from him and is always exciting to play against him. He further spoke about CSK's strength and how the team has a good experienced side. "They have some experience also in their side. The good bowlers who have played for this franchise before and have been playing for the franchise for a really long time. But this format, whatever comes your way, you have to be yourself. Just enjoy and take one ball at a time," he said. While he has struggled in recent T20Is, managing just 28 runs in his last five innings with a strike rate of around 117, his IPL performances have been considerably better. When asked about his form, Yadav offered a light-hearted response. "Is that for IPL or for Team India? For IPL, IPL form has been good," he said. He further added: "I think the harder you work, the luckier you get. If it has to come, it will come anytime. But I am actually a process-oriented man. I love to work hard in the nets. And if the runs have to follow, it will follow quickly. Someday or the other", he said. In IPL 2024, Yadav scored 345 runs, including three half-centuries. In the absence of Hardik Pandya and Jasprit Bumrah, the team will rely heavily on Yadav’s experience and form. Both Pandya and coach Mahela Jayawardena have previously expressed their confidence in Yadav, believing he will regain his best form during the season. "If I am practicing well, hitting the ball really well in the nets, when I go in the game, my mind is clear, I know what I have to do. That is the moment, that is the sweet spot for me. When I know that I am in good space and I will get runs for the side," he concluded.
