The spectators and viewers of Maharashtra Premier League (MPL) 2025 saw something extremely bizarre during Match No. 6 between Raigad Royals and Puneri Bappa at Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Pune. Batting first, Puneri Bappa posted 202 at the loss of four wickets. During the first over of Raigad Royals' pursuit of 203, Puneri Bappa's wicket-keeper Suraj Shinde executed a weird and infrequent run-out. He struck both ends of stumps with a single throw! Raigad Royals left-handed opener Siddesh Veer played the ball gently to the leg side and attempted a rapid run. But he soon halted when he noticed Suraj Shinde had picked up the ball quickly. His batting partner Harsh Mogaveera, however, didn't move quickly enough and simply stood by, thinking that the throw won't come towards his end. Shinde picked up the ball and tossed it at the striker's end, and though Veer ran back on time, the ball hit the stumps, rolled down the pitch after ricocheting, and struck the non-striker's stumps. Mogaveera was out of the crease and got run out without scoring a single run. He was not at all expecting this to happen. Also Read | Will BCCI Ban RCB from IPL 2026? The run-out was according to MCC Law 38.4, which states that the batter is out if stumps are broken at their end when they are outside the crease. Not the First Time in the History of Cricket This type of dismissal has occurred in cricketing history previously as well. During Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) 2022, Andre Russell was dismissed in a similar manner when the ball struck the stumps at one end and rolled over to the other to run him out. According to cricket rules, the ball is still in play even after striking the stumps, unless the umpire declares it dead or a batter is out.
