Apart from the 16-run defeat, Kolkata Knight Riders have just one more thing to check: that is the bat size of the players. In a recent video that went viral, it was seen that KKR's opener Sunil Narine failed to check the bat size. Presently, BCCI has introduced a new rule of checking the bat size of individual batters on the field itself, before they start to play. While following such rules, the reserve umpire, Sayed Khalid, got the "house-shaped" ring to check the size, but Narine's bat failed. His bat's bulge got stuck. The young batter Angrish Raghuvangshi was standing right beside him, and his bat easily passed through the ring. Even though he did not have to use his bat at all, he had to get a bat from the reserved player Rahmanullah Gurbaz. KKR couldn’t chase down a modest target of 111 runs at Mullanpur. Punjab's batting faltered as they aimed for big shots instead of building partnerships, leading to their downfall. Key batters like Priyansh Arya (30), Prabhsimran Singh (30), and Shashank Singh (18) fell cheaply. Well, it was the Arya-Prabhsimran partnership at the top and Shashank-Marco Ajnsen at the bottom that got the runs for Punjab. Harshit Rana was the standout with three wickets, while the spin duo of Varun Chakravarthy and Sunil Narine also contributed. KKR, in reply, struggled with their batting. Andre Russell (17) tried to get KKR over the line, but a brilliant performance from Yuzvendra Chahal (4/12) and Marco Jansen (3/17) ensured a thrilling win. Iyer’s tactical brilliance led KKR to defend the lowest-ever score in IPL history.
