India opened their Super Four stint of the Asia Cup against long-time rivals Pakistan at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium by winning the toss and deciding to bowl first. The two nations have already met once in the current edition during the preliminary group phase, where India cruised to a seven-wicket win after limiting the Men in Green to a meager 127/9 in their allotted 20 overs. As pitiful as the Pakistani performance was, attention soon turned to off-field issues in the aftermath of the match and the saga got a second wind on Sunday. Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav hadn't shaken hands with counterpart Salman Agha Ali in their recent encounter, much to the surprise of everyone. But tempers flared when the veteran sprinted off the park following the winning six for India together with batting partner Shivam Dube, even as their opponents waited patiently for traditional post-game handshakes. It was subsequently disclosed that match referee Andy Pycroft had also been informed of India's position a few minutes prior to the toss, resulting in the Pakistan Cricket Board requesting a change in umpire for their subsequent game against UAE too and boycotting pre-match press conferences thereafter. Although Pycroft has since apologized to PCB, who themselves stand accused by the International Cricket Council of numerous procedural mistakes, the policy of the handshake continued unaltered on Sunday with both captains again standing apart at the ceremony.
