India achieved an early breakthrough due to Mohammed Siraj, who sent Ben Duckett back to the pavilion with a sharp and smart delivery. Duckett, who had been displaying early aggression, attempted to play a big shot but didn't make proper contact. Siraj delivered a back-of-length ball at about 140 kmph, outside off stump. Duckett attempted a pull shot, trying to hit it straight down the ground. But he failed to get the width he had required and instead pulled the ball off the inside edge of his bat. The over-early shot went straight to Jasprit Bumrah, stationed at mid-on, and he did not hesitate in pouching it. Siraj was charged up after the dismissal and celebrated with all his might, even going to the extent of giving a little shoulder tap as he went past Duckett. It was an important moment for India in the early part of the innings, establishing the tone with their initial breakthrough. The players looked happy as they walked off the field, high-fiving one another after a job well done. Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj started off on the right note, bowling in good areas and challenging the English top order. Siraj was thanked for his incendiary seven-over spell, taking out Ben Duckett and providing India with the opening they had been looking for. Nitish Reddy maintained the run as he got rid of Zak Crawley, who perished attempting a loose drive. Yashasvi Jaiswal snapped up a sharp catch in the gully to seal the dismissal. England were struggling at 50/3 then. Harry Brook attempted a counterattack with a 23 from 19 deliveries but his risk-taking sweep shot proved costly as he was bowled behind his legs by Akash Deep. There were also indicators of variable bounce which made life more challenging for the batters.
