India wrapped up a historic victory at Edgbaston in the 2nd Test against England, and it was appropriately ended as captain Shubman Gill took the final catch to seal the deal. Akash Deep, who was in for Bumrah for this game, bowled sensationally and got his 10th wicket by dismissing Brydon Carse. It was a short and wide ball, Carse attempted to slog it, but sliced it down high. Gill, at cover, stood serenely under it and made a clean catch. He was overjoyed with a thunderous roar, fist pump, and later he took a stump as a keepsake of this precious moment. It was a moment of pride for both the team and skipper Shubman Gill. This was Gill's maiden victory as Test captain, and he was magnificent with the bat. He had scored a double century and a century in this Test, and had also scored a hundred in the opening Test. His batting was unruffled, elegant, and full of poise. India sent in their batsmen first and piled up a record 587 runs. The lower middle-order contributed to the massive total. The difference in the match was the bowling of India with the new ball. England's bowlers were struggling, but India's fast bowlers, topped by Akash Deep, performed excellently. Akash bowled fast, used angles, and made the ball swing. England lost early wickets in both innings 84 for 5 in the first, and 83 for 5 in the second. Akash Deep collected 10 wickets in the game and replaced the injured Bumrah perfectly. Siraj also provided good support with the ball. Gill, Akash Deep, and Siraj each carried home a stump at the end of the match as a reminder of this historic victory.
