On January 25, day 3 of the Elite Group A match in BKC Stadium, Mumbai star Shardul Thakur took a stunning catch off spinner Shams Mulani to dismiss Paras Dogra, the captain of Jammu and Kashmir. This happened in the 42nd over when Dogra tried to go big against Mulani but fell short of the optimal distance. Thakur, who was in the cover region, turned to his left and ran backwards, covering a long distance, and then finally dived behind, completing the catch. Walking in at 91-6, Thakur smashed his second First-Class century in just 105 balls, displaying sheer determination. His spirited celebration highlighted the significance of his innings in rescuing Mumbai from disaster. After a promising start by Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rohit Sharma, Mumbai’s batting collapsed, losing five wickets for 37 runs. With the pressure mounting, Thakur partnered with Tanush Kotian to stabilize the innings. Tahukr's innings ended after he scored 119 runs and got dismissed to Auqib nabi. Kotian too completed his half century, scoring 62 runs on 136 balls. There was not much of batting dispaly in the first innings as well, but they dragged themselves to 120 runs, thanks to a half century from Shardul Thakur (51). However, despite Shams Mulani’s 4-wicket haul and Mumbai’s star-studded lineup, including Rohit Sharma, fell short of a win. Jammu and Kashmir stunned Mumbai by 5 wickets, chasing 205 in 49 overs.
