A bizarre incident took place during the Sydney Thunder's innings against the Melbourne Stars in the 14th match of the BBL 2024-25 at the Manuka Oval. On the third delivery of 13th over by Peter Siddle, Sydney Thunder's batter Sam Billings dabbed a short delivery which went straight to the fielder at the short third man. Billings, who was running towards the non-striker's end, looked lazy and a direct hit by the fielder went on to hit the stumps and the ball ricochetted after hitting the stumps and this allowed the Thunder to get an extra run. However, the replay made it clear that Billing was well out of the crease when the ball hit the stumps, but no one from the Stars appealed for a run-out, nor the on-field umpires went up to third umpire. Billings, who was at 16 runs when this happened, rubbed the salt on the wound by smashing a six on the next delivery and eventually ended up scoring 72 off 39 before losing his wicket to Peter Siddle in the 18th over. Thunder was reduced to 45 for 3 inside six overs and they had all the chances to make it 95 for 4 if they would have appealed for the run-out of Sam Billings. However, this blunder by them costed them a lot as Billings scored 72 to help his side reach 182 for 8 at the end of 20 overs. In response, Stars could only manage 164, ending up losing the game by 18 runs as no other batters of Stars except Duckett (67) survived for longer period at the crease. They kept on losing wickets at regular interval, thanks to Wes Agar who bagged 3 wickets, while Ferguson, Sams, Green, Andrews and Sangha having one each to their name. This was fifth consecutive defeat for the Stars in this BBL, while Thunder registered their second win of the season.
