The Proteas openers added 51 runs for the first wicket before Shaheen Afridi dismissed Tony de Zorzi for 22. Next man in was Matthew Breetzke, who made the highest score by a player on the ODI debut in his last match. Bavuma and Breetzke batted well, adding 119 runs for the second wicket. However, Bavuma fell short of the crease on 82 which forced him to walk back to pavilion.
