The promising all-rounder Riyan Parag showed his power hitting skills on the first day of the Duleep Trophy between India A and India D. Batting at number four, Parag whacked some beautiful boundaries to lift India A's score after their top-order batters had a jittery start on day one of the match. While the match started with India D's skipper, Shreyas Iyer, winning the toss to bat first, things did not seem too bright for India A at the start as they lost their captain, Mayank Agarwal, for just a couple of runs; his wicket was taken by Vidhwath Kaverappa. Matters got worse when Pratham Singh, who was brought in as a replacement in India A's team, too fell after facing a sharp bouncer off none other than Kaverappa himself. But things started to take a different turn when Tilak Varma got company in the middle from Riyan Parag. The two batsmen led an India A fightback after the two early wickets. Coming from Assam, the right-handed batsman played some shots of inspiration, catching the India D team off their guard as he played his shots boldly. His quick scoring helped India A get back in the groove from a shaking start and thus took the authority of the game. And the most exciting part of Parag's innings was witnessed in the 12th over, pretty much immediately after he came to the crease. With Vidhwath Kaverappa already on two wickets, Parag wasted no time. On the third ball of the over, Kaverappa bowled an over-pitched delivery. Parag made full use of it as he smashed the ball high over the long-off boundary for a six. The effortless shot reminded many fans of Indian cricketer Rohit Sharma, who has some stylish sixes to his credit in international cricket.
