BCCI has recently implemented checking the widths of the bats on the field, and after KKR's Sunil Narine and Anrich Nortje, it's Riyan Parag who failed the test, leaving him visibly frustrated. Riyan Parag was brought in as a replacement of injured Sanju Samson, who walked out retired hurt. But Riyan was stopped midway by the on-field umpire to check the bat's width. And when the "shape" was brought in, Riyan's bat failed to pass through it, and he was seen having an animated chat with the umpire, as he was forced to change his gear. Delhi Capitals captain Axar Patel bowled out Riyan Parag with a smart, subtle delivery. Coming around the wicket, Axar bowled it slow and on a good length around middle and off. The ball held its line after pitching and didn’t turn much, catching Parag off guard. As Parag pushed forward with a defensive shot, expecting it to turn, the ball beat the outside edge and crashed into the stumps. Riyan's sluggish innings ended with him scoring 8 runs off 11 balls. As per the guideline, each batter's bat must pass through a standard gauge before they begin their innings. This measure ensures that no player uses a bat that exceeds the prescribed dimensions, which could offer an unfair advantage. The process involves the fourth umpire checking the openers' bats before the match starts. For batters coming in later, the two on-field umpires carry out the inspection before the player takes guard. This step has been implemented to uphold the integrity of the game and maintain a level playing field for both bowlers and batters. IPL Chairman Arun Dhumal stated that the decision aims to promote fairness and eliminate any doubts about equipment-related advantages. The BCCI has consistently embraced technology and rule changes to safeguard the game's spirit and competitiveness. This latest move is yet another effort in that direction, ensuring the focus remains on skill and strategy, rather than on equipment.
