The stand-in captain of the India team, Rishabh Pant, was seen guiding his team on how to ball. Sometimes he was literally telling exactly what to do, sometimes he was cheering his mates, and sometimes he was asking them relax saying he will take care of the field. One such instance was caught with Washington Sundar when Rishabh asked the bowler to let the batter hit, and the batter actually hit for the six. Washington Sundar, despite being the only off-spinner in the squad, bowled just one over in Kolkata. Meanwhile in Guwahati, he as many as 26 overs but still went wicketless. There was a point when it looked like the bowlers were only looking for wickets and were not creating the stage for a batter to take risks. Senuran Muthsamy, who missed the first Test was batting in the 124th over when Washington was advised by Rishabh to relax. His over already got a run from Marco Jansen. And while Washi came to bowl the final ball, Rishabh instructed, "marne de usko." (let him hit.) Washi casually tossed the ball towards outside off, and Muthusamy slogged it clean over long on for a six.
