In the one-off Test against Afghanistan, New Chandigarh, Pant provided yet another entertainment for the Indian team. The wicketkeeper-batter completely changed the dynamic of the match with an aggressive batting display before reaching his 50-run mark in his 50th Test. When Pant walked out to the crease, he did so after KL Rahul's well-compiled century and in a match that was already going India's way due to Rahul, Sai Sudharsan, and captain Shubman Gill's good form, he made sure that the pressure would remain on the Afghans. He looked positive right from the word go and did not take long in putting the bowlers on the back foot. From a phase that was quiet and in control of the Afghanistan bowlers, Pant changed the game in the space of just six balls. He moved down the pitch and lofted the ball over the field on the first six before punishing a full toss for another six over the cow corner. For his third six, he rocked back to a short delivery from Malik and hit the ball over deep mid-wicket. This over conceded 19 runs and showed the kind of change an attacking stroke maker can bring about in the course of few balls. It was an inning that suggested he let his bat do the talking, and it paid off as he once again provided strength to the Indian innings against Afghanistan. He then paired up with his captain Shubman Gill and frustrated the opponents even more as India were in total control of the match. It has been the usual for Rishabh Pant to give important performances in the Tests and this was just another instance where he has scored at a good pace and put the pressure on the opposition, and after a good number of Indian batters impressed on the first day, the three sixes over the ropes from him and the fifty in the 50th match was undoubtedly a great sight.
