Day 1 of the India vs South Africa 2nd Test at Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati saw a brilliant moment of game awareness from Rishabh Pant. The wicketkeeper-batsman told his bowlers to stay patient and let Temba keep hitting over the top-and amazingly, Temba got out in that exact way. It was a perfect example of Pant's sharp reading of the game in this South Africa tour of India 2025 clash. The umpires did check the light meter and found that play could not continue, with stumps called on a day that moved steadily enough without ever bursting into life but had its moments to keep the contest finely balanced. The opening duo got set, putting together a fifty-run stand by seeing off the early seam movement with discipline. Aiden Markram survived an early chance, but India eventually broke through when Jasprit Bumrah removed him in the final over of the morning session. Soon after tea, South Africa lost another as Rickelton fell to Kuldeep Yadav. The visitors rebuilt through Tristan Stubbs and Temba Bavuma, who added an important 84-run partnership. Both looked confident, rotating the strike and keeping India's bowlers working hard. Just when it seemed like South Africa would finish strong, India struck once again. Bavuma was dismissed while trying to go aerial, and shortly after, Stubbs fell to Kuldeep too. The spinner continued to remain a thorn, later removing Wiaan Mulder to pick up his third wicket of the day. Tony de Zorzi and Muthusamy then steadied the innings with calm, composed batting. However, just before stumps, de Zorzi edged one from Mohammed Siraj to give India that important breakthrough. With South Africa losing four wickets in the final session, the match sits evenly poised heading into Day 2.
