Cricket enthusiasts were left stunned during Somerset's massive 95-run victory against Essex in the 2025 Vitality T20 Blast at Taunton. Australian pacer Riley Meredith delivered one of the most memorable balls of the tournament as he bowled down Essex opener Michael Pepper with a ball that broke the stump into half. Stump Breaks in Two After Meredith's Thunderbolt The mishap occurred early in Essex's innings. Meredith charged down at full speed and bowled a low full toss that hammered directly into the leg-stump. The stump broke lengthwise into two neat halves, one half remaining lodged in the ground, and the other one shot off behind. It was an unusual and beautiful sight which left the batter stunned. Meredith grinned and proceeded to collect the broken stump from where it lay, as if a trophy. He subsequently turned over the fragments to the umpire, visibly relishing the moment. Commentators and fans dubbed it a dream delivery for any fast bowler. His fiery spell triggered a collapse as Essex were bowled out for just 130 in 14.1 overs. Matt Henry was the pick of the bowlers with 4 for 21, while Craig Overton also took two wickets. Earlier in the day, Somerset had put up an enormous 225/6. Rajasthan Royals' Tom Kohler-Cadmore was the hero with a blazing 90 off 39 deliveries, hitting eight fours and seven sixes. Essex skipper Simon Harmer's choice of sending the opposition in on a flat surface came back to haunt him. Somerset now top the South Group with 36 points from 11 matches. Essex are propped at the bottom, winning only once in the same number of matches.
