On Day 3 of the fourth England-India Test in Old Trafford, Manchester, Joe Root had a sizeable escape when an opportunity to run him out went amiss. It happened in the morning session when England struggled to stabilize their innings. Missed Chance Despite Jadeja's Presence The moment occurred on the last ball of the 54th over, delivered by Mohammed Siraj. The ball lifted awkwardly from a good height, and Root deflected it to the gully area. The fielder there dived to get his fingers on it and deflected the ball to Ravindra Jadeja, who was stationed at backward point. Root's partner Ollie Pope and himself summoned a dangerous single, and Jadeja had ample time to throw towards the bowler's end. Root was well down the pitch when Jadeja collected the ball, but the throw did not hit the stumps, saving England's best Test batter Root. This happened due to the lack of presence of mind by the fielders standing around the wickets. Jadeja was visibly seen in anger and he expressed his frustation by signalling the fielders to come close to the stumps. If there had been a fielder to back up the throw, Root would have been out by now. Also Read | Fact Check: Is Karun Nair’s Viral Crying Photo with KL Rahul Real?
