A startling video has resurfaced, reviving memories of the infamous "Slapgate" episode from the inaugural IPL season. Notably, the former chief of the Indian Premier League, Lalit Modi, had a chat with the ex-captain of Australia, Michael Clarke. In Clarke's "Beyond 23" show, Modi discussed about the slapgate issue and the video was aired for the first time after seventeen years. The incident occurred on 25 April 2008 during a match between Mumbai Indians and Kings XI Punjab at the PCA Stadium in Mohali. At the conclusion of the game—during customary handshakes—Harbhajan Singh, standing in as Mumbai’s captain, slapped S. Sreesanth under the eye. The moment wasn’t widely televised, but cameras captured a distraught Sreesanth breaking down in tears on the field moments later. As the players left the pitch, Harbhajan Singh, acting as Mumbai’s stand-in captain in place of injured Sachin Tendulkar, delivered a slap to Sreesanth, who played for Punjab. Although the exact moment of contact was not captured on camera, viewers saw the effects: Sreesanth, tearful, visibly distressed during post-match proceedings. Sreesanth's teammate and Punjab owner Preity Zinta was seen consoling him. However, Harbhajan was seen least bothered and walked ahead and shook hands with the rest. Harbhajan actually lost his calm when his team slipped to their third successive defeat. After the game, as he walked off the field, he slapped Sreesanth, who had greeted him with a casual “hard luck.” This provoked the spinner, and in the heat of the moment, Harbhajan reacted physically. The spinner was banned for the next 11 IPL matches; that is, the remainder of the IPL season. He His match fee was forfeited, and he was also banned for 5 ODI matches. Later in several interviews, Harbhajan Singh admitted his fault and claimed that he apologized to this once-a-teammate several times. Notably, in a recent interview with Ravichandran Ashwin, Singh said that he was moved when Sreesanth's daughter denied to shake hands with Singh saying she cannot talk to someone who slapped her father.
