The fielding for Australia has been exceptional in the ongoing Test being played against India at Optus Stadium, Perth, in the first Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. The Australian team appears to be equally impressive both with the ball and out in the field. One of the instant fielding moments saw the combination of Marnus Labuschagne and Nathan McSweeney send back Harshit Rana. It was on the 4th ball of the 47th over, which came from Josh Hazlewood. He bowled a short ball outside off. Harshit Rana tried to punch off the back foot through the off-side. Unlucky for him, it got a thick edge and flew really quickly to the left of the gully fielder. Nathan McSweeney, who was positioned there, dived one-handed but couldn't hold on to the ball. However, the ball deflected off his hand and went towards Marnus Labuschagne at third slip. Labuschagne showed excellent reflexes and grabbed the ball with his right hand, taking a sharp low catch to complete the dismissal. Till date, McSweeney had never opened in the Sheffield Shield. After India could muster 150 in the first innings, McSweeney was given the first opportunity to bat with Usman Khawaja at the top. At 25, the right-handed batter is mentored by Marnus Labuschagne. A good start was seen off him as he scored 10 runs off just 13 balls, including two crisp boundaries. A sharp delivery from Jasprit Bumrah cut short his innings as McSweeney found himself ahead of the stumps. Initially, the on-field umpire gave him not out but India chose to review. The review showed that the ball was hitting the stumps, which forced the umpire to overturn the decisiono which sent McSweeney back to the pavilion.
