Australia fast bowler Nathan Ellis produced one of those massive, almost turning point moments in the 2nd ODI vs Pakistan when he got Babar Azam out with a brilliant delivery at the Gaddafi Stadium , in Lahore. Pakistan were already under a lot of pressure after they lost a few early wickets while chasing 203. The home team really needed one of the senior batters to settle things down , and Babar Azam looked like he was ready to take over. He looked comfortable facing both pace and spin, like, rebuilding after the early stumbles. But then Ellis changed everything. Bowling from over the wicket, the Australian pacer rolled his fingers over the ball and came up with a sly cutter. After pitching, it moved sharply back into Babar, almost like it was a spinner doing its own thing. Babar tried playing across the line, yet the ball slipped past the inside edge and pinned him straight on the pads. The Australian players appealed quickly, and the umpire lifted the finger. Though Babar suspected that there was some nick, he went for a review and found that the ball-tracking confirmed the umpire’s decision along with the ball hitting the stumps. That is why the field decision remained the same. This dismissal was quite critical for Pakistan as they had to see the exit of their most experienced batsman, who scored 16 runs off 16 balls for his team. Then, Ellis rejoiced with his mates since Australia were close to gaining control over the game. Moreover, the early dismissal of Maaz Sadaqat by Nathan Ellis was also an important point for them as his wicket was more significant than others. It should be mentioned that Babar was their key batsman and this dismissal caused Pakistan a lot of trouble. All Australian bowlers performed quite efficiently during the game. Thus, Kuhnemann got rid of Sahibzada Farhan, whereas Matthew Short took two important wickets – Salman Agha and Abdul Samad. Between the fielding and the disciplined bowling, runs were hard to come by. Each wicket kept piling on pressure and it made partnerships feel impossible for the home side. Brief Scorecard Pakistan were 66 for 5 after 14.4 overs while chasing 203. Ghazi Ghori stayed unbeaten on 32 from 42 balls, and Shadab Khan was on 4. Babar Azam made 16 , Salman Agha 7, Sahibzada Farhan 3, Abdul Samad 2, and Maaz Sadaqat was dismissed for a duck. For Australia, Nathan Ellis was the standout with 2 wickets for 22 runs in four overs. Matthew Short took 2 as well, and Matthew Kuhnemann finished with one wicket. After Babar’s crucial dismissal, Australia stayed firmly on top and never really let go.
