The 30-year-old long format specialist for Australia made his first appearance in this BBL after serving for the national side in the BGT 2024-25. He was on song in his very first match of the season against Hobart Hurricanes at The Gabba Brisbane. The batter registered his highest score (77) of Big Bash League, and this came in just 44 deliveries and his innings comprised of eight fours and two sixes. He played some fabulous shots all around the park in his innings, one of which came just on the next delivery after he reached to his half-century. On the last ball of the fifteenth over, Riley Meredith bowled a full-length delivery on the leg stump line to which Marnus Labuschagne scooped it over the fine leg boundary for a six by going down on his knees. This shot was the highlight of his innings as it displayed his prowess to excel in the shorter format of the game as well. Usman Khawaja scored 23, while Matt Renshaw added 40 runs. Tom Aslop also added a valuable 39 off 27 but it was Marnus Labuschagne whose innings made the difference. Nathan Ellis was the most successful bowler for Hobart Hurricanes as he bagged 3 wickets. Marcus Bean and Mitchell Owen also picked up a wicket each. Hurricanes openers, Caleb Jewell and Mitchell Owen kicked off the chase aggressively. The duo posted 80 runs in 6.5 over before Owen lost his wicket for 44. His innings comprised of one four and six sixes. At the time of writing, the side still requires 110 off 66 balls and the chase is going to be interesting.
