Steve Smith is known for turning games around single-handedly. The modern-day bradman enjoys batting in Tests, especially when it comes to the knockouts and finals. Getting him out early is what every team plans for, and so did South Africa in the WTC Final. Although South Africa failed to get Smith out early in the first innings, the Proteas managed to dismiss him cheaply in the second innings. His wicket not only brought joy among the South African team but also delighted everyone at the Home of Cricket, witnessing this iconic final. The moment came in the 19th over when South African speedster Lungi Ngidi found Smith ahead of the stumps. The onfield umpires deemed him as not out, a smart review from South Africa overturned the decision. As soon as the big screen flashed 'OUT', the Proteas jumped and celebrated with joy, but what stole the show was the loud applause from the crowd. Whole of Lord's were up on their feet to celebrate the wicket of Steve Smith. Coming back to the match, despite the wicket of Steve Smith, Australia managed to get a good lead over South Africa in the final of WTC. At one point, the Proteas' pacer reduced the Aussies to 73-7 in the second innings, but a gritty partnership of 61 runs between Alex Carey and Mitchell Starc took the lead over 200. Alex Carey scored 43 runs off 50 balls before being a victim of Kagiso Rabada's delivery. At the time of writing, Australia is at 138-8, with a strong lead of 212 runs. Few more runs from the tail will strengthen their chances of defending the title.
