Former South Africa captain Shaun Pollock did not hold back his criticism of Rishabh Pant after another disappointing outing in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season. Rishabh Pant has managed to score only 110 runs from 10 matches so far, with an average of 12.22 and a strike rate of 98.21. His latest failure came against Mumbai Indians (MI), where he fell for a two-ball four while attempting a risky reverse sweep during LSG’s daunting 216-run chase. "He got to the crease, he picked up a boundary off the very first ball. He almost bought himself 10 balls, where he could just knock it around, pick up the singles get a feel of the surface, and then look to cash in. But, they will tell you, 'Oh, that is my natural game', to pull out the reverse sweep," said Pollock. Pollock also reflected on Pant's current mindset and inability to adapt to the demands of the match situation. Despite his natural flair, the LSG captain is yet to contribute consistently with the bat in IPL 2025. Pollock highlights Krunal Pandya’s smart approach Pollock further drew a sharp comparison between Pant and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) all-rounder Krunal Pandya, praising Krunal for reading the situation better despite having less batting talent and experience than Pant. "Now we watch that game, where you see him do that, and then you watch Krunal Pandya, who has got nowhere near the ability that Pant has got, nowhere near the experience he has got, walked in a similar situation, he managed to get himself in and then he made them pay later. So, I don't know how we explain Pant's shot selection. In his mind, he must have felt that there was a shot on offer," he added. Krunal showcased his calmness under pressure during RCB's recent match against Delhi Capitals. Coming in when his team was under pressure, Krunal stitched a match-winning partnership with Virat Kohli. He remained unbeaten on 73 off 47 balls, ensuring a six-wicket win for his side with nine balls to spare.
