India completed a comprehensive win in the first Test against West Indies at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, winning by an innings and 140 runs. The home side, who had already declared their innings at 448/5, disintegrated the West Indies batting order over both innings with a dominant bowling performance led by Ravindra Jadeja, Mohammed Siraj, and Kuldeep Yadav. The day three's play was characterized by India's merciless accuracy and fielding excellence none more pronounced than KL Rahul's incredible catch to get Brandon King out early in the innings. The flash of brilliance was when Jadeja bowled the second ball of the 17th over. Having consistently overpitched throughout his spell, Jadeja astutely reduced the length a fraction just enough to find Brandon King unaware. The West Indian batsman, anticipating another full toss, delayed the back foot and went on to poke hesitantly at the ball. The ball got the edge and dipped sharply towards the slip cordon, but Rahul at first slip responded with lightning quick reflexes. He dived forward and scooped the catch inches from the grass a piece of joy that left bowler and team-mates elated. King was out for a paltry 5 off 18 balls, as West Indies descended further into trouble, finally getting bowled out for 146. Also Read | No Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli for 2027 ODI World Cup? The left-arm spinner took four wickets in the second innings, and his consistency and control on a pitch that had variable bounce and turn were all too evident. His line and length were as relentless as always, keeping the West Indies batters on their toes during the entire session. Siraj and Kuldeep contributed two wickets each, and there was no escape for the West Indies middle and lower order. The fiery spells of Siraj with the new ball led the way, while Kuldeep's flight and drift completed the job perfectly with Jadeja's accuracy. The convincing victory has given India a 1-0 advantage in the two-match series and will enter the second Test full of confidence.
