The day started well for England as Joe Root took yet another century against India. But soon, India regained their composure. Jasprit Bumrah delivered a great ball to dismiss Ben Stokes and then, in the same over, took out both Root and Chris Woakes. India were then in complete charge at that point and had a genuine opportunity to bowl England out for a sub-par score. But something began to go awry after the ball was altered at the 90.3 over mark. The Indian cricketers were clearly displeased with the substitute ball, and it seemed to disrupt their rhythm and body language. The intensity fell, and England made the most of it. The major turning point was the missed catch by KL Rahul off Jamie Smith when he was playing only at 5. Smith didn't waste the chance. He settled down and proceeded to play another half-century in this series. Brydon Carse, even if scratchy on occasion, played a fine supportive role and played some sparkling shots. Together, they compiled a crucial 82-run partnership for England, putting the pressure back on India. What began as a session in India's control gradually turned England's way. The lost opportunity and the surprising ball switch could prove expensive for India, particularly if this stand keeps increasing on Day 3.
