The 3rd ODI at the Bay Oval, between New Zealand and Pakistan, has been full-on drama, starting from an undertaker moment to an actual verbal spat between Khushdil Shah and a Pakistani fan. Not a good sight though; yet if it needs to be described, it happened after the match ended, and the field was getting ready for the post-match presentation. The ground staffs were holding the background boards straight, and an animated fight just went on behind it. The Pak players were leaning on the boundary fence, in groups, when the two fans came abusing them, and then Khushdil protested that just dropped the fireball. Security had to interrupt and tried to drag them out of the stadium, but who cares! The abuse innings simply continued, with the fans raining to-be-beeped words. Especially their fielding was nothing but a comedy, but a stunning dive from Haris Rauf. And in the series as well, Pakistan got mopped away with a 0-3 defeat against the guest New Zealand. And the final ODI ended with a 43-run loss, thanks to collective batting and a sensational five-wicket haul by Ben Sears. Rhys Mariu’s composed 58 and a fiery 59 off 40 by Michael Bracewell powered NZ to 264/8 in 42 overs. Akif Javed impressed for Pakistan with 4 wickets, though his economy took a hit. In reply, Pakistan started cautiously but stumbled despite Babar Azam’s 50 and Rizwan’s brisk 37. The collapse began post 30 overs as Sears wreaked havoc, finishing with figures of 5/34. Pakistan were bowled out for 221 in 40 overs, falling short by 43 runs. Despite Imam’s early injury, the chase had promise but lacked momentum in the middle. The Kiwis’ bowling depth, aided by Jacob Duffy and Bracewell, dismantled the lower order with ease. Pakistan will now be gearing up for their own T20 league, the Pakistan Super League, starting this April.
