South African spinner Keshav Maharaj was left overwhelmed with feelings as his side won the World Test Championship (WTC) Final 2025, beating Australia by five wickets. The left-arm spinner thanked everyone and termed it an honour to hold the great trophy aloft for his nation. He said that they are thankful as a team and proud as a nation. This win was South Africa's first ICC title in 27 years, with their last victory coming in the 1998 Wills International Cup (formerly the Champions Trophy). Australia posted a first-innings score of 212, with Steve Smith (66) and Beau Webster (72) dominating the show, and Kagiso Rabada impressing with an excellent five-wicket performance. But, South Africa fared poorly in their first innings, being bowled out for 138, thanks to a six-wicket tutorial from Pat Cummins. Australia battled well in the second innings, scoring 207 runs, with Mitchell Starc (58) being a vital contributor of runs. The Proteas had to chase a score of 282, which was led by Aiden Markram at the forefront with 136 runs and was ably supported by Temba Bavuma's calm 66, piloting South Africa to a record five-wicket win.
