In the 2nd Test between England and India at Edgbaston, Karun Nair looked solid at the crease as he put away a loose delivery from Chris Woakes for a boundary. Woakes bowled a full and straight half-volley, an area England seemed keen to target, but Nair was ready for it. He leaned into the drive and timed it beautifully past the non-striker for four. Similar to the first innings, Nair showed great composure against full deliveries and didn’t miss out when offered scoring opportunities. It was a confident shot that showed his control and positive intent early in the innings. While England fought hard through a record stand between Jamie Smith and Harry Brook, the Indian bowlers remained composed and struck back at the opportune moment. Smith scored a magnificent innings after walking in at 84/5, and in company with Brook, put on a record-breaking 303 runs for the sixth wicket. Brook also completed his century, and England was given a much-needed turn-around. But India did not allow the match to slip away. They were much more concentrated than they had been in Leeds, where they had allowed England back into the game after having been in commanding positions. There were no errors of fielding, no free runs for the tailenders, and the bowlers kept the pressure on. Mohammed Siraj and Akash Deep were the heroes with the ball. Siraj took six wickets, while Akash Deep picked four. After shattering the big stand, they swiftly dispatched the remaining batters with the second new ball. Their discipline and intensity turned the game in India's favour. The pitch is still assisting the fast bowlers with the new ball. There isn't much turn as yet, and bounce has been generally even. England, however, were below par with the ball before stumps and will have to pick themselves up in a hurry. With such a huge lead and commanding position, India will now look to bat England out of the match and try to push for a victory.
