During Match 70 of IPL 2025 between Lucknow Super Giants and Royal Challengers Bengaluru, RCB completed a record run chase, and Jitesh Sharma was the hero. Having taken his team to the winning side with a match-winning innings, Jitesh celebrated by removing his helmet and hurling it onto the ground just in front of Avesh Khan. The action wasn't unprovoked. It was a daring response to Avesh Khan, who had pulled off a similar helmet celebration earlier in the 2023 season when LSG had beaten RCB. Jitesh had the last word this time. Punting on a huge score of 228 runs, Jitesh slammed six sixes and eight fours to play the game-winning inning. Mayank Agarwal, who scored 41* off 23 balls, was well supported by him. His unbroken 107-run partnership with him ended the game with 8 balls remaining. Earlier, Virat Kohli had started the chase on a good note with his brisk 54 off 30 balls. Then came Jitesh and Mayank, who dominated the LSG bowlers and never allowed the pressure to mount. LSG's innings was led by Rishabh Pant, who smashed a magnificent 118* off 61 balls, hitting 11 fours and 8 sixes. He contributed 152 runs with Mitchell Marsh, who scored 67 off 39 balls. However, even with their solid batting, LSG bowlers were struggling. Will O'Rourke conceded 74 runs — a record for the most by any LSG bowler in IPL history. Other bowlers were unable to stem RCB's attack-minded batting either. One such moment was Jitesh Sharma celebrating by throwing his helmet on the ground upon victory, directly in front of Avesh Khan. It was considered a defiant response to Avesh's same gesture during IPL 2023 when LSG defeated RCB. RCB's intelligent batting at various stages allowed them to manage the run rate. Kohli began well, and Sharma and Agarwal completed the task. This victory was RCB's ninth of the season and enabled them to end up in the top positions. It also defined the playoff scenario, with thrilling games now to be played in Qualifier 1 and the eliminator.
