Jasprit Bumrah wreaked havoc with a fiery spell on Day 1 of the Test between Australia and India in Perth, sending back two key batters in quick succession. On the fourth ball of seventh over, Bumrah dismissed the steady Usman Khawaja. A short-of-length delivery that angled into him before nipping away forced Khawaja to edge it to the slips. Kohli was not going to be as sloppy this time, and he took a clean catch to send Khawaja back for 8 runs. On the very next delivery, Bumrah trapped Steve Smith plumb in front for a golden duck. Smith, known for his shuffle across the crease, misjudged a full delivery that swung back sharply. The ball struck him on the pads in front of middle and leg. Smith didn't even thought of reviewing as the decision was clear. Bumrah celebrated as Australia's star batter walked back without scoring. The two quick wickets put India in command early, thereby underlining the ability of Bumrah to trouble even the best batters. The stand-in Indian skipper has already accounted for three wickets by the 11th over, giving an onslaught presentation to bring India back into this game. Bumrah began his spell by sending debutant Nathan McSweeney back in the third over. A sharp delivery trapped McSweeney in front, giving India a fairly early break. Then he went dismissed Usman Khawaja and Steve Smith on a successive deliveries.
