Mumbai Indians pacer Jasprit Bumrah has resumed bowling in the nets at the BCCI Centre of Excellence (formerly known as the NCA) in Bengaluru. The Indian speedster sustained an injury during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and has been out of action since the Sydney Test. He was also ruled out of the ICC Champions Trophy, which India went on to win. While continuing his recovery in Bengaluru, a video of Bumrah bowling in the nets has gone viral, offering a huge boost for the Mumbai Indians, who are eagerly anticipating his return after their poor show in the first two matches. Recently, Mumbai Indians head coach Mahela Jayawardene provided an update on Bumrah’s fitness while speaking to the media. The former Sri Lankan cricketer confirmed that the pacer’s recovery is progressing well and is working on the rehabilitation program set by the medical team. However, Jayawardene did not give a specific timeline for his return, stating that the final call would be made by the medical staff at the Centre of Excellence. While Bumrah is expected to feature in the latter part of the IPL season, the BCCI is likely to manage his workload cautiously to ensure he remains fit for India’s tour to England. India will be touring England right after the IPL for a five-match Test series. It will be interesting to see how many overs Bumrah would bowl in the series. Notably, India overused him in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, where he bowled 151.2 overs, taking 32 wickets. Remarkably, he was responsible for 24.4% of all deliveries bowled by Indian bowlers.
