The defeat by 30 runs against South Africa in the first Test at Eden Gardens was tough to digest, but one moment after the match stood out. Jasprit Bumrah wasted little time in walking up to the South African captain, Temba Bavuma, and spoke to him regarding the controversy that has taken social media by storm since Day 1 of the Test. This heated talk between Bumrah and Rishabh Pant, where the stump mic picked up the word “bauna bhi hai”, has resulted in a social media storm with many calling it an insult to Bavuma’s height. Bumrah Explains His Side to Bavuma The word bauna in Hindi is usually used to describe someone with dwarfism, and using it casually in a tense moment was seen as offensive. The clip spread quickly online, and even South Africa's batting coach Ashwell Prince reacted to it. With so much attention on the remark, it was clear that Bavuma too knew what had been said. The moment the final wicket fell, without even waiting for the teams to walk off, Bumrah ran straight towards Bavuma, spoke with him for a few seconds, and seemed to explain that there was no ill intent behind the comment. Bumrah even put his arm around Bavuma's shoulders as the South African skipper listened calmly. The short conversation ended with a handshake, showing that both players had settled the matter before leaving the field. Defending only 123 runs in the fourth innings on Indian soil is rare, but the visitors showed great fight. Simon Harmer was the star with the ball, taking four wickets as Indian batters struggled on a pitch with uneven bounce and sharp turn. Only Washington Sundar offered resistance with a score of 31. Earlier, Bavuma had played a captain's knock of 55 not out on Day 3 - the only half-century of the entire Test - which helped South Africa reach a total that proved more than enough in the end. It means that India go into the final Test with pressure to try and square the series, while South Africa enter next week with all the momentum and confidence.
