A shocking confusion occurred prior to the fourth game of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, when the Indian National Anthem was played in place of Australia's. The mistake occurred just before Australia played against England, and players, officials, and spectators were left momentarily perplexed. The mistake was soon rectified, and the proper anthem was played prior to the commencement of the match. The unexpected error became a rage on social media, as fans responded to the gaffe. The faux pas was seen during the pre-match ceremonies, when both the teams had stepped out for the anthems. Australian players were confused, as was the public. In spite of the flash of confusion, both teams went into the game with a positive mindset. ICC Suffers More Criticisms for Mistakes This was not the first time the ICC faced criticism for mistakes in the tournament. Earlier, questions were raised about why the Indian flag was missing at Karachi’s National Stadium, while the flags of all other competing teams were in place. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) was asked about the issue and later gave an explanation. Another controversy was created when "Pakistan" was absent from the Champions Trophy broadcast band for India's match against Bangladesh. In all other matches, the complete branding was "Champions Trophy 2025 Pakistan," but for this match, it was only "Champions Trophy 2025." The PCB was not happy and wrote to the ICC seeking clarification. The ICC subsequently replied that the problem was caused by a technical fault from the broadcaster side. UK production company Sunset & Vine, based in the UK and responsible for the graphics under the supervision of the ICC, made the error, as reported by ESPNCricinfo. The ICC reassured the PCB that the mistake would not be repeated. The full broadcast branding was reinstated in subsequent matches, including the England-Australia match. Prior to this short diversion, Australia had won the toss and decided to bowl first. The move proved successful as England's top order was put under pressure early on. Alex Carey pulled off a remarkable one-handed catch to send back Phil Salt for only 10 runs, providing Australia with an early breakthrough. The side went on with controlled bowling to prevent England from scoring easily. However, Joe Root and Ben Duckett rebuilds the innings for England.
