Pakistan opener Imam-ul-Haq suffered a bizarre yet painful injury during the third ODI against New Zealand at Mount Maunganui, which forced him to retire during the match. The incident occurred in the third over of the match, while the Pakistan batter was trying to complete a quick single. As the throw came in at the non-striker's end, the ball somehow found its way through the grill of his helmet and struck him on the jaw. Imam appeared visibly in pain after the incident and struggled to stay on his feet. Soon, the left-handed batter was helped off the field and later wheeled away. Pakistan brought in Usman Khan as a concussion substitute for Imam-ul-Haq. Imam-ul-Haq's injury added woes to Pakistan's forgettable tour in New Zealand. The team went on to lose the match by 43 runs, resulting in a 0-3 whitewash in the ODI series against New Zealand. "I will give credit to New Zealand; they played really well in all departments of the game. We need to play better against the new ball. We will go back and discuss whatever we have learned from here", he said. Pointing out the positives in the series, Rizwan acknowledged Babar Azam and Naseem Shah's batting. "It is a disappointing series for us. Positives for us are the good touch of Babar Azam and Naseem Shah's batting," he said. Pakistan's next known international fixture is by the end of July, where they will tour to West Indies for a three-match T20I and three-match ODI series, starting from July 31.
