Team India consolidated its grip on the first Test here on Day 2, leaving Bangladesh under pressure after a dominant display. Leading by 227 runs thanks to a massive total of 376 in their first innings, in which Ravichandran Ashwin bagged his fifth Test century (113), and Ravindra Jadeja chipped in with 86 - Bangladesh was bundled out for 149, handing India a key advantage at stumps on the second day. Seamers Jasprit Bumrah led the attack, picking up four wickets, while Mohammed Siraj, Akash Deep, and Jadeja all returned with two each. Despite being ahead by 227 runs, India chose not to enforce the follow-on and resumed their innings in the last session of Day 2 and finished the day at 81/3. On Day 3, Gill and Rishabh Pant batted so well that they made the Bangladesh team frustrated as they slowly but surely piled up the runs for India. An interesting moment came when Pant, preparing to face the bowler, turned around and appealed to Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto to put a fielder in the leg-side, which was otherwise empty. Pant said, "Arey idhar aayega ek. Idhar kam fielder hai" (Put a fielder here, there aren't many on this side). Guess what? Shanto listened to Pant and placed a fielder in mid-wicket. Sabbir did that without referring to his captain, Mashrafe Mortaza. The start of Bangladesh was terrific to the match while they were able to push India into 144/6, but they could not keep up the momentum. With the partnership between Ashwin and Jadeja, India bounced back to the match. On the third day, at lunch, India was 205 for three. Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant are closing in to their centuries that will place India in a position to put heavy pressure on Bangladesh.
