In Match 39 of the T20 World Cup 2026, Afghanistan took on Canada in what was their final group-stage match a bit of a formality, really. The highlight of the game came during the 19th over of Afghanistan's innings, thanks to Ibrahim Zadran. Canada's bowler, Dilon Heyliger, tried to mix things up with a slower, fuller delivery that drifted wide of off stump, hoping to catch Zadran off guard. But Zadran was quick to react, he dropped to one knee and expertly opened the face of his bat, sending the ball soaring over extra cover. It was a perfect strike, and the ball flew a whopping 75 meters into the crowd. That six was a testament to the control Zadran displayed throughout his innings. He ended up not out on 95 runs from 56 balls, with a fantastic tally of seven fours and five sixes. From the moment he settled in, he exuded confidence, playing classic cricket shots and punishing any loose deliveries that came his way. His innings included seven fours and five sixes, and he paced himself perfectly, ensuring Afghanistan kept their momentum going throughout. Rahmanullah Gurbaz added some early spark to the innings with a quick-fire 30, attacking during the powerplay and putting Canada on the back foot. Sediqullah Atal also made a significant contribution, scoring 44 and forming a solid partnership with Zadran that pushed the total well beyond Canada’s comfort zone. Canada tried to respond positively and showed some attacking intent in the first couple of overs, but the pressure of the chase quickly mounted. Once the early wickets fell, it became challenging to rebuild. Mohammad Nabi swung the match decisively in Afghanistan’s favor with a stellar spell, finishing with four wickets while conceding very few runs. His control during the middle overs disrupted the rhythm of the chase. Rashid Khan and Mujeeb Ur Rahman provided excellent support, keeping things tight and forcing mistakes. A brief stand from the middle order showed some resistance, but Afghanistan remained disciplined and secured a convincing 82-run victory.
