The first day of the second Test between India and Bangladesh in Kanpur witnessed several interruptions due to rain and issues with light. Only 35 overs could be bowled. Bangladesh batted first and went on to reach 107 for 3 at stumps. The limited amount of play was also enough for wicket-keeper batter Rishabh Pant to entertain the fans with the breaks in the game. Just before bad light had to cut the game short, Ravichandran Ashwin was bowling his ninth over. He was in preparation for the next ball when Pant made that wise-crack comment that had legendary cricketer Sunil Gavaskar laugh out loud from his studio commentary box. Pant said that, instead of trying to get a set batter Mominul Haque out LBW, Ashwin could hit him on the helmet. Pant said: "Ash bhai, idhar se LB le sakte hain helmet se…, (Try getting him LBW on the helmet." Gavaskar quickly translates Pant's Hindi comment into English, saying, "What Rishabh Pant is saying in Hindi is that you can get an LBW on the helmet as well.". The match had been delayed due to wet outfield, but India was quick to make use of the seam-friendly conditions early on before Bangladesh slowly recovered through a good partnership between Najmul Hossain Shanto and Mominul Haque. Captain Rohit Sharma's call to bowl first didn't take much time to pay dividends as early wickets were seen from the Indian pacer Akash Deep. Taking two wickets in his very first spell, the Bangladeshis found themselves struggling at 33 for 2. It was 78 for 2 in lunch, and Shanto, the skipper of Bangladesh, and Mominul were their hopes. Mominul played some fine shots and even found form in his batting in a bid to defend India's quicker bowling attack along with his skipper. Shanto showed a lot of promise in his batting but was dismissed smartly by Ashwin with an arm-ball that made Shanto play for the spin, hence an LBW verdict. The early stumps was a relief for India as the Bangladeshi middle order, Mominul started gaining confidence. Mominul remained unbeaten on 40 and Mushfiqur Rahim was at the other end.
